Guess who said this?

In 2001, when Vermont’s Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords switched from the GOP to the Democrats, handing control of the Senate to the Democrats in the process, none other than Arlen Specter decried the move as unethical and unfair to the voters. “I plan to propose a rule change which would preclude a future recurrence of a senator’s change in parties, in midsession, organizing with the opposition, to cause the upheaval which is now resulting,” he said then.”

and in March:  “I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role — a more important role — to play there. I think the United States desperately needs a two-party system. It is the basis of politics in America. I think each of the 41 Republican senators, in a sense, and I don’t want to overstate this, is a national asset, because if one was gone you would only have 40. The Democrats would have 60 and they would control all of the mechanisms of government.” –Sen. Arlen Specter

Not that it matters.  You see, he doesn’t place the rights of the unborn over those of the born, or decry medical research that may save lives.  So the Republicans don’t want him.  It’s called cutting off your nose to spite your face.

An easy win

The Bradys sent me another e-mail. This time they vow to close the “gun-show loophole”  (oh, yes, … if we send them money).

Since this so-called “loophole” doesn’t exist, how long should they wait before declaring victory?

Finally

Biden resigned from the Senate yesterday.

Not a moment too soon; he was required to resign before the 20th. I still think it took big brass balls to be sworn in to this session.

Senate Resolution 8

In which the Dems claim to “return the Government to the people by reviewing controversial “midnight regulations” issued in the waning days of the Bush Administration. ”

Yeah, we’ve been through this. The National Park Service extended comment period twice on firearms in national parks. They reviewed the need for an environmental statement and determined it wasn’t required.

“The People” my eye.

Biden et. al.

Why the hell hasn’t the man resigned his senate seat? Why did he take the oath yesterday?

For that matter, why did he run for reelection? Do people honestly believe they should stand for election for two different seats at the same time?

The senators who are cabinet appointees have to – after all, they have to vote to confirm themselves. Whether or not it’s legal.

He’s the governor, after all

Blagojevich appointed a senator. One who couldn’t get elected in his (at least three) previous tries for elected office.

Now, if Illinois voters don’t like it, they need to recall, and to hell with impeachment by the legislature. If they don’t scream for a recall, they’re agreeing with the actions. Simple as pie.

Economic slowdown

So the president-elect (who hasn’t seemed to remember his “there’s only one president at a time” remark) has $30M left in his election account, and is RENTING a $9M house in Hawaii for his vacation.

Some message to send during a slowdown, eh?
